Final Preseason Game

September 13, 2012

With two exhibition games already under their belt The Grande Prairie JDA Kings will wrap up their 2012 – 2013 preseason campaign tonight when they host the visiting Sexsmith Vipers at the Coca Cola Centre.

The Kings will be looking to rebound from the setback they suffered last weekend when they fell in the second game of the weekend series with the Capital Junior Hockey Leagues Fort Sask Hawks. Despite splitting the two game series with the Hawks the Kings would like to finish the pre-season with a win and help gain a little momentum as they begin preparation for next weekends home opener against these same Sexsmith Vipers.

What to watch for: Starting goalies for both teams in tonights game weren’t with either club last season and you might say for the Kings goaltenders this maybe their last chance to make a case for themselves. Both rookie netminders are expected to split tonights game.

The Vipers on the other hand have plenty of things to be excited about for tonight as plenty of new faces are expected to be in the lineup. Like the Kings it sounds like they too will be starting a rookie netminder with returning goalie Nigel Heath expected to backup.

Tale of the tape: The Kings won all 6 meetings last season versus the Vipers. However, last year has past and you should expect both teams to not waste any time getting refamiliarized. Games last season featured a lot of physical play and with both teams meeting again on September 21st to kick off the NWJHL regular season both hockey clubs will be looking to set the tone tonight for next weeks game.

Lineup Notes:The Kings will be without there first two line centers as both Daniel Bishop and Paul Larocque are expected to sit out tonights game. After having sat out last weekends two game series against Fort Sask forward Nolan Trudeau should be in the lineup playing on a line with brother Ryan.

Speaking of the Trudeaus, they arent the only brother tandem in camp this year as rookie forward Joel Wamsteeker has been skating with the Kings. Joel is the younger brother of Corey. Both are expected to be in tonights lineup.

Wrap Up:Game time is set for 8:30 pm at the Coca Cola Centre, we urge all of our fans to join us as tonights game will be free admission for all ages.
