Game Three Tonight
With each team having road wins so far early on in this series tonights matchup makes it that much more important for the Grande Prairie JDA Kings to pick up a win when they host the Fort St. John Huskies in game three of their semi-final matchup.
Almost a week ago today the Huskies stunned the Kings at the Coca Cola Centre walking away with a 6 to 3 win and stealing home ice advantage. A gutsy effort on the road in a noisy barn saw the Kings even the series by winning this past Saturday 3 to 1 and putting themselves in a position to regain home ice advantage tonight. With just three losses all season Grande Prairie was almost perfect on home ice this season dropping just one game to the North Peace Navigators earlier in the season.
Yet despite the home ice success Grande Prairie has gotten this NWJHL season the Huskies have played Grande Prairie tough at the Coke Centre and tonight should showcase another close hard hitting matchup with both teams looking to gain an edge before Game 4 Thursday night.
It won’t be an easy task.
With injuries taking its toll on the Kings lineup other players have had to step in and contribute. The team has relied on a couple of Midget AAA affiliate players to help ease their depleted lineup.
Tonights game is the third of a best of seven series. Game four will go back in Fort St. John this Thursday beginning at 8pm and game five will be back in GP Saturday March 9th for an 8:30 start. If necessary the Kings will have to travel to FSJ for a Sunday afternoon game 6 before possibly wrapping up the series on Tuesday night March 12th for Game 7.
Elsewhere the North Peace Navigators are on the brink of once again reaching the NWJHL finals. The Navs currently have a commanding 3 games to 0 lead over the Fairview Flyers. Game 4 goes tonight in Fairview.
