JDA Kings Canucks Preview
Having only met one time so far in the 2012 – 2013 NWJHL regular season the Grande Prairie JDA Kings and Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks are set once again to do battle only this time it will be at the Coca Cola Centre. These two teams haven’t met since October 10th and it saw the Kings skate away with a 12 to 3 win.
Despite the score the Jr. Canucks did show moments they could skate with Grande Prairie scoring the first goal of the game and disrupting the Kings powerplay by scoring back to back goals shorthanded. With the only matchup having taken place so early on the Jr. Canucks have been playing better and currently sit in fourth place in the NWJHL standings with a .500 record (8 and 8) and 12 points back of first place Grande Prairie.
Dawson Creek kicked off the month of November upsetting the second place North Peace Navigators on home ice, it was easy to say that that was the biggest win the club has had this season but Dawson would love to hand the JDA Kings their second loss of the season and inch themselves up the NWJHL standings and closer to third place Slave Lake, Dawson sits four points back with two games in hand. A lot of the teams success relies on goaltender David Readman, in three of the four games this month Readman was recognized as a star of the game with two of those honors being first star selections. Having not played last game it’s unsure if Readman will be in the lineup tonight as rumours of an injury circulate.
While November started with a bang for the Juniors it has been a rough month for them to try and string together some consistency. With back to back wins to start the team has split each game since, winning one then losing the next. The Canucks fell victim this past Saturday night dropping a 6 to 5 decision to last place Beaverlodge. It hasn’t been a terribly busy month as of late for the Junior Canucks, tonights game will be just their sixth game this month and third in the past two weeks.
The JDA Kings on the other hand our entering their final game of the month for November. The past two games for Grande Prairie have been far from perfect, the team dropped their first decision of the year to the Navigators on the 17th before narrowly escaping with a 3 to 2 win this past Saturday against while visiting Fairview to play the Flyers.
Looking for a boost of energy the Kings have added two new forwards to bolster their lineup. Connor Tetlock and Adam Hodge, both played with the 2011 – 2012 NWJHL champion Whitecourt Wolverines are expected to make their debut tonight at the Coca Cola Centre. Both players spent the early part of the season with the Kimberly Dynamiters before becoming apart of the Kings organization this past week. When asked to comment on the recent additions the Kings coaching staff seemed excited and felt the experience both players played in Whitecourt’s championship last season will be a big benefit for the JDA Kings moving forward.
Be sure to join us tonight at the Coca Cola Centre for NWJHL game action, puck drop between the Jr. Canucks and JDA Kings is set for 8:30 pm.
