JDA Kings End Month Perfect
The Grande Prairie JDA Kings month came to a perfect end last night following a 12 to 2 drubbing of the Beaverlodge Blades helping secure a start of 10 wins with 0 losses for the opening month and a half of the NWJHL regular season.
Tuesday night seen the Kings set the pace and set it early peppering Beaverlodge for six first period goals (including three on the powerplay) all within the final 10 minutes of the opening period. Two goals from forward Sheldon McArthur and singles from Garrett Schacher, Lyndin Lewis, Nolan Trudeau and Devin Bell rounded out the scoring for the Kings in the opening frame. While not tested a whole lot in the opening twenty JDA Kings goaltender Nolan Bowker kept the Blades off the scoresheet.
Three goals in the second opposed to the Blades single stretched the lead 9 to 1. Forward Lyndin Lewis would add his second shorthanded with the other two goals coming from Ryan Trudeau and defensemen Dustin Gould. Blades Thomas Simpson had the lone goal for Beaverlodge in the middle frame.
The third was much of the same with Grande Prairie adding three more entering double digits once more at home. The Blades would open the scoring just twenty seconds into the final period as forward Thomas Simpson put home his second of the night. The Kings would answer with three consecutive goals, Ryan Trudeau with his second, Devin Bell with his second and Lyndin Lewis would secure the hattrick the six minutes to go.
As mentioned with the win the Kings improve to 10 and 0 and will try to add to that this weekend with back to back road games starting Friday night in Sexsmith. Saturday night Grande Prairie will make the trek to B.C when they get set to play the Fort St. John Huskies.
News and Notes: With 10 wins on the season the Kings have already surpassed the streak they put forth last season. Last year Grande Prairie would go with 6 straight wins to open the season before losing on home ice to the North Peace Navigators. Despite being better then last year Grande Prairie will try to chase the previous team record of wins (when they were formerly known as the Grande Prairie Wheelers) with 17 straight.
Kings sign Defenseman: Grande Prairie added another body to their roster yesterday to put their current roster to 24 players. Defensemen and local area product Morgan Eaton should be in the lineup this weekend when the Kings travel to Sexsmith and Fort St. John. Eaton split time in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League with the La Ronge Ice Wolves and the Alberta Junior Hockey Leagues Llyodminster Bobcats this season.
Grande Prairie still has one roster spot available prior to leading up to both roster cut down dates which take place on December 1st and January 10th. It’s unknown if the team will be looking to add much more at this point in time.
