JDA Kings Move Into Finals

March 10, 2013

The Fort St. John Huskies made it interesting Saturday night but in the end the Grande Prairie JDA Kings would survive blowing a 2 to 0 lead late in the third period with a 3 to 2 overtime win securing their spot into the NWJHL Finals.

It’s been three years since a Grande Prairie Junior B team last reached the championship round and while the city of GP still has yet to claim an NWJHL championship since the leagues creation back in the early 90’s the Kings are looking forward to have a chance to accomplish it.

In their way, the North Peace Navigators.

It’s been talked about for the majority of the NWJHL season but ask most NWJHL fans and followers this season and a lot will tell you this is the final they expected and definitely one they’re looking forward to.

Both teams spent much of the season chasing one another in the NWJHL standings but it was the JDA Kings 14 game winning streak in the months of December and January that would eventually help them secure first overall and home ice advantage throughout the 2012 – 2013 playoffs. Home ice however hasn’t proved to be much of an advantage throughout the regular season.

Evenly matched throughout their five game regular season series the Kings had the edge winning 3 games and losing 2. Two of those wins came on the road at the Baytex Energy Centre while Peace River put the first loss on the Kings record with a 9 to 4 drubbing in Grande Prairie on November 17th. Since that point both teams have went back and forth with the final three games played being decided by two goals or less with one GP win coming in a shootout.

Needless to say, both teams are evenly matched which should make for an exceptional NWJHL finals.
