JDA Kings Shutout Flyers
Your County of GP JDA Kings took a trip North to Fairview on Friday night looking to get back on track after losing to Dawson Creek last Saturday but winning their previous five games. The Kings were also looking to close the gap too 1 point between themselves and the North Peace Navigators for third place in the standings.
The game was even until 9:23 of the first period when Zach Bennet was sent in alone on a breakaway and made no mistake giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. A few moments later things got feisty as defenceman Cody Friesen dropped the gloves for his first fight in junior hockey and faired well in his first tilt.The period ended 1-0 with the shots 14-8 in favour of the Flyers.
Captain Donny Gaudreault came flying out of the blocks to start period two scoring just :23 seconds into the period. the goal was assisted by Ty and Wyatt Lawrence. Wyatt Lawrence was making his return to the Kings from a stint in Jr.. A hockey in Ontario to start the season. The Kings The Flyers played a good portion of period two in the power play but were not able to solve goaltender Darian Sommerfeld in the Kings net. Shots once again favoured the Flyers 17-7.
Once again in the third period the Kings came out and jumped on the Flyers to start the period with Darian Fuller getting his second of the season from Doram and Gillingham just 47 seconds in. Zach Bennett notched his second goal of the night with 1:17 remaining to put the nail in the coffin and give the Kings the victory. Sommerfeld stopped 44 shots for the shutout in the JDA net. The next game for the boys is next Friday night at 8pm at the Crosslink County Sportsplex when the host the FSJ Huskies. Tickets are $10 for Adults at the door.
