January 23, 2015

The JDA Kings came out firing on Thursday night registering 25 shots to Sexsmiths 3 in the opening period and jumping out to a three nothing lead. Goals came from Kevin Henley and the Wamsteeker brothers. Vipers goalie Tyler Boe kept his team in the game making a number of good saves, numerous on Kings forward Ryan Trudeau who couldn’t buy a goal in the first period despite all of his chances.

The Kings tallied three more times in the second frame all in the first half of the period. Two goals came on the powerplay as Sexsmith ran into penalty trouble culminating with a bench minor and a Vipers coach being ejected from the contest. Kevin Henley tallied his second goal of the game with Kyle Lipinksi and Morgan Eaton each getting netting a goal from the defence. Shots were 14-4 in the period for the Kings.

The final frame was uneventful and Trudeau was finally able to finish one of his opportunites to make it 7-0 and the Kings closed the game out finishing with total shots of 46-13. Andy Gilker picked up his third shutout of the season between the pipes. He leads the league with 14 Wins playing significantly more minutes than any other goalie in the NWJHL loop and holds a .922 save percentage which is generally the most telling stat for how well a goalie is playing. Captain Corey Wamsteeker currently leads the league points race with 61 pts on a balance of 31 goals and 30 Assists.

The Kings are in Beaverlodge tonight to take on the Blades at 8pm and return to the friendly confines of the Crosslink County Sportsplex on Saturday for a tilt against the third place Fairview Flyers.

The bleachers are fully licenced at all Kings games and the Penalty Box lounge is open to watch the game, have a bite to eat and enjoy a beverage or two.
