Kings Chapple Staying Put

June 27, 2012

In what potentially could have been one of the Kings biggest off season stories it turned out to be nothing more then just that, a story. This past week JDA Kings Head Coach Kyle Chapple was fielding an offer from the AJHL which would have seen him leave the Kings to continue to pursue his coaching career.

Luckily for the JDA Kings Chapple decided to stay put.

“It was a very tough decision and either way felt it was a win win, on one hand I get a chance at the next level, in the other I’m still apart of a hockey team that has a good shot at winning it all this year.”

The Kings knew late last week about the possible changes that may have been made but were well prepared and all the same excited about the news, yet the hockey club feels a little happier seeing their Head Coach return for another season.

Entering their second year of competition in the NWJHL a coaching change was one of the last things the JDA Kings wanted to deal with this late into the offseason but when it involves a member of the organization being recognized for hard work there is little one can say.

After an earlier exit then anticipated last season in the playoffs Chapple feels there is some unfinished business for his hockey team this upcoming season. “There will be other opportunities and I feel happy staying with this group of hockey players knowing what we have and how close we are to winning a championship, the organization from top to bottom has been putting in a lot of work adding to our team looking for all the missing pieces to push us to the next level.”

The Kings feel confident heading into the season and know this is a make or break season for the hockey club. While training camp is still a month away the team is already well underway into the season.

“We’ve got a potential tryout camp of 60 – 80 kids, some players coming from as far away as San Jose potentially, we’re not looking to dismantle our hockey club, just fill the few spots from players that have graduated or left to pursue schooling.”

Kings camp kicks off August 24th at the Coca Cola Centre with Registration. The team is asking all players returning and new to fill out this form to secure your spot.
