Kings look to get back into win column – DHT
It’s a loss the County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings want to quickly put behind them.
Last Saturday, the Kings lost 7-2 to the Fairview Flyers at the Crosslink County Sportsplex, in a game which saw the Flyers outshoot the Kings 13-1 in the first period. On Friday and Saturday, the Kings retake to the ice in search of their first NWJHL victory of 2016.
Kyle Chapple, head coach and GM of the Kings, made it clear following their 7-2 loss to the Flyers that a lack of effort won’t be tolerated, and if necessary, changes would be made. The team’s play coming up on Friday and Saturday could determine the direction Chapple and the Kings take into the January 10 roster deadline.
Friday, the Kings (14-9-0-1), travel to play the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks (4-17-0-1) and then return to the Sportsplex on Saturday to host the Beaverlodge Blades (2-23) at 8 p.m. The Canucks and Blades are ranked last in the NWJHL.
The Canucks are to not be taken lightly, despite what their record is. On Dec. 4, the last time the Kings and Canucks met, the Canucks rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the second period en route to a 7-4 home victory.
Meanwhile, struggles continue in Beaverlodge again this season for the Blades. Their last win came on Oct. 21 in a 4-0 victory over the Canucks. Since then, the Blades have lost 18 consecutive games.
Forward Kevin Henley leads the Kings with 17 goals and 19 assists.
Kings forward Donald Gaudreault is on a 10-game point streak with four goals and 11 assists.
