Kings Look To Rebound
Perhaps it was a long lay off or perhaps it was a team the seems to be peaking at the right time. Whatever the case the Grande Prairie JDA Kings face a stiff test tonight when they continue there best of seven NWJHL semi finals tonight in Fort St. John.
This past Thursday both clubs kicked off the second round with the Huskies stunning Grande Prairie and winning 6 to 3 to take an early 1 to 0 series lead. Whatever the case may have been the result will hopefully serve as a wake up call to the Kings who will need to continue their success in Fort St. John with a strong game tonight at the North Peace Arena.
All season long the Huskies had been gnawing at the Kings with a couple close calls over the course of the five game regular season series. Finally though Fort St John took advantage of a Grande Prairie team that looked a little rusty throughout the evening and a team who is missing a handful of regulars due to injury and work commitments.
Five affiliate players from the Grande Prairie Midget AAA program were in the lineup Thursday night and while they certainly didn’t look out of the place the cohesion of having to step in on a moments notice isn’t an easy thing to do.
It’s unknown at this time whether the Kings will ice the same lineup heading into tonights hockey game in Fort St. John but one things for certain that Fort St John has a chance to put some unease in the JDA Kings if they can pull off a win tonight.
Notes:Elsewhere in the NWJHL playoffs after surviving some close games with the Beaverlodge Blades the North Peace Navigators seem to be hitting there stride at the right moment as the club has taken a 2 to 0 series lead with two dominating games against the Fairview Flyers. This series could be over by the time the Kings and Huskies even play game 4. Game 3 goes tonight in Peace River before game 4 goes Tuesday night back in Fairview.
