JDA Kings Shocked On Weekend
Heading into the weekend you could ask any NWJHL expert what they thought about the Grande Prairie JDA Kings going 2 and 0 and most would probably give you differing opinions. But ask those same experts what they thought about the Kings going 0 and 2 and you could argue that 99% wouldn’t see it happening. Unfortunately for Grande Prairie that’s exactly what happened and for the first time all season it dropped the Kings out of first place and into second.
Facing the team that most have said all season long would be the Kings stiffest competition the North Peace Navigators once again walked away with another win, this time on home ice by a score of 5 to 3. Without team captain Kevin Monfette and starting goalie Patrick Earle the Navs game plan kept the Kings offense to a minimum. Grande Prairie would lead after one by a 2 to 1 score but once the first ended it went downhill from there as the Navigators controlled a lot of the play and kept Kings shooters to the outside.
The following night Grande Prairie was once again looking to get back into the win column and had a great opportunity as they visited the last place Beaverlodge Blades. What Grande Prairie got was a rude awakening. Having never lead throughout the game and constantly chasing with a short bench the JDA Kings looked lost most of the evening committing endless turnovers and giving far to many odd man rushes to a Beaverlodge team that was ready to roll. Strong play from both teams goaltenders was the story for a lot of the game. Blades goalie Dylan Quinn would make 39 saves in the win while newcomer Sky Buller for the Kings would make 32 saves in the loss.
Shocked with no answers Grande Prairie will need to find a way to refocus and do so quickly as they will once again play the team there are now chasing for first this Saturday night when the host the North Peace Navigators.
