NWJHL Finals Game 3
Faced with pressure filled situations, the Grande Prairie JDA Kings answer.
Throughout the 2012/2013 post-season the Grande Prairie JDA Kings are nearly perfect with a 9 and 1 combined record but still post an undefeated record in overtime (3 and 0) following Saturday nights thrilling 4 to 3 win in game 2 of the NWJHL finals. It’s been a credit to getting timely goals and having strong goaltending throughout.
The trend continued this past Saturday night at the Coca Cola Centre as the Kings faced a team that appeared a lot more hungrier then in the first game. Thankfully Kings goaltender Sky Buller was up to the task making a handful of key saves throughout the game to keep the game close while Grande Prairie found it’s scoring touch after falling behind 2 to 0 in the first half of the hockey game.
Grande Prairie scored three straight in the second period to take the lead but Peace River managed to tie it up in the last half of the third period to square the affair and push both teams into their first overtime game of the series.
It didn’t take long.
Kings forward Daniel Bishop put home a rebound within the first three minutes to send the Kings on the road with a 2 to 0 series lead.
Still it’s a long ways from being over.
The series now shifts back to Peace River for games three and four. With what should be a loud and rowdy Baytex Energy Centre in Peace River this Wednesday night it will be critical for Grande Prairie to play a strong first period and not fall behind. Ironically enough Peace River only lost two games at home all season with both of those coming at the hands of the JDA Kings.
As is the case in a lot of game three’s it could be the difference in a series as to whether a team pulls back into the series or moves one game away from the brink of elimination.
Game time is set for 8:00 pm Wednesday night.
