Wamsteeker Takes League Scoring Title. Lipinski & Gilker Make Their Mark!
Corey Wamsteeker the captain of your JDA Kings has finished as the league’s scoring leader. With the regular season concluded Sunday Wamsteeker finished with 43 Goals & 46 assists for 89 points in 28 games. Doug Morris from Fairview finished in second with 35-42=77 pts. This is third time in the last four years the scoring title has gone to a member of the Kings with Nolan Trudeau winning it in both 2011-2012 and 2012-2013.
King defenceman Kyle Lipinski ended the season second in points by players playing defence, only one point behind Dylan Moore of the North Peace Navigators despite having played five games fewer. Lipinski finished with 17-21=38 pts.
Goaltender Andy Gilker also made his mark on the NWJHL this completing the schedule at or near the top in many of the goalie statistical categories. He finished second in games played at 23, first in wins with 16, first in shutouts with 3, second with 1290 minutes played only behind Josh Round of the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks. Gilker also finished number one in save percentage with a .918%, usually the most telling stat for how a goalie has performed. Gilker will be counted on to be at the top of his game as the playoffs begin.
The playoffs for the Kings will not start for another week and a half or so as the Beaverlodge Blades are not able to ice a team therefore essentially giving the Kings a bye to the second round.
