Win streak continues for JDA Kings – By Logan Clow, Grande Prairie Daily Herald-Tribune
The County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings extended their win streak to four games with a 10-4 win over the Beaverlodge Blades on Oct. 30 and 5-3 win over the Fort St. John Huskies on Nov. 1.
With a 6-1 record, the JDA Kings are ranked third in the North West Junior Hockey League.
“We finished strong in both games. Our effort level – I think our first periods could have been better in both games – but overall, I thought we worked hard and got the job done,” said Kyle Chapple, head coach and general manager of the JDA Kings.
“(Our starts) are something that have to be better. I don’t know what it is, but we seem to be flat out of the gate in most of the games we’ve played this year. We end up getting down by a goal usually early in the game and it’s something we’ve got to fix here because we can’t keep coming from behind.”
Thursday, Kelsey Bauman had a hat-trick and an assist, Zach Bennett had a goal and three helpers, Kyle Lipinski had four assists and Ryan Trudeau had a pair of goals and assists to hand the Blades their ninth-straight loss of the season. JDA Kings goaltender Dylan White had a 22-save performance to earn his first junior B win.
Against the Huskies, JDA Kings captain Corey Wamsteeker scored a hat-trick to lift the Kings to a 5-3 victory.
On Friday, the JDA Kings travel to take on the North Peace Navigators, who are first in the NWJHL with an 8-2 record. The Kings’ lone loss this season came in a 5-3 game against in Peace River on Oct. 17.
“I think a good start is going to be key for us and just being really focused and going in there and playing a good road game,” said Chapple, of facing the Navs.
“We know they’re going to be good. They’re always good on home ice and they’re a team that can score a lot of goals and they have good goaltending.”
